Stress & Burnout Therapy in Toronto

You keep pushing through, but you’re running on empty. Maybe you dread Monday by Saturday afternoon, snap at people you love or can’t remember the last time you felt rested. Stress is part of life. Burnout is what happens when demands outpace your resources for too long. Therapy can help you understand what’s draining you and find a more sustainable way forward.

Kalm Wellness Therapy offers stress and burnout therapy at our North York office and online for clients across Canada.

Who it's for

Stress and burnout therapy is for anyone feeling stretched past their limits, including:

  • Professionals dealing with heavy workloads, difficult workplaces or career uncertainty
  • Healthcare workers, helpers and caregivers who give a lot to others
  • Students juggling school, work and expectations
  • Parents balancing home and work
  • Newcomers to Canada managing the pressure of starting over
  • People-pleasers and perfectionists who find it hard to say no

Signs of stress and burnout

  • Constant exhaustion that rest doesn’t fix
  • Feeling cynical, detached or numb about work or responsibilities
  • Lower productivity, procrastination or trouble concentrating
  • Irritability, tearfulness or feeling overwhelmed by small things
  • Headaches, tension, stomach issues or poor sleep
  • Losing touch with hobbies, friends and the things that used to restore you

Burnout can overlap with anxiety and depression. A therapist can help you sort out what’s going on.

Approaches we use

  • CBT to challenge all-or-nothing thinking, perfectionism and guilt about resting
  • ACT to clarify your values and make choices about where your energy goes
  • Solution-focused brief therapy for practical, goal-oriented change
  • Mindfulness and mind-body approaches to calm the nervous system and notice early warning signs
  • IFS to understand the inner “drivers” that keep you overextending
  • Boundary-setting and communication skills for work and relationships

Some clients also pair therapy with our NeurOptimal® neurofeedback sessions, a non-medical brain-training option offered at the clinic.

What sessions involve

Your first session looks at your current load, both at work and at home, along with your sleep, health and support, and the patterns that have led you here. Together you’ll identify what’s in your control and what isn’t. Sessions often include practical tools such as prioritising, setting boundaries, scheduling recovery time and handling difficult conversations with a manager or family. They also look at the beliefs that make slowing down feel risky. Change usually comes in small, steady steps rather than a complete overhaul.
